Software Design Engineer

Full-time, Permanent – Great Yarmouth NR31 0NB

Job description

Applied Acoustic Engineering is a manufacturer of high value marine related electronic-acoustic products that include subsea and surface positioning and tracking systems, and a market leading range of seismic survey equipment. Established for more than 30 years the company has an international client base across many industry sectors that is supported by a global distributor network.

Due to business growth we have a vacancy for a Software Design Engineer to join our team.

As a Software Design Engineer you would be working within a small design team of hardware and software engineers. The majority of our software interfaces with our range of bespoke hardware products, both controlling and presenting results via a graphical user interface.

Software Design Engineer responsibilities include gathering user requirements, defining system functionality and writing code, primarily in C# and .NET. Our ideal candidates are familiar with the software development life cycle (SDLC) from preliminary system analysis to tests and deployment.

Ultimately, the role of the Software Engineer is to build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software that complies with specifications and technical design.

Responsibilities

  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Write well-designed, testable code
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems

Requirements

  • Experience of Windows GUI Development
  • .NET Programming
  • C# Programming
  • Experience of Agile or similar development process
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio and associated tools
  • WinForms development

Desirables

  • Strong Mathematical Skills
  • Mobile/Cross Platform Development Android/IOS (Xamarin)

Electronics Support Engineer

Full Time, Permanent – Great Yarmouth

Job description

Due to business growth we have a vacancy for a support engineer to join our team.

Support Engineer with expertise in some or all of:-
Marine Geophysics and Sub-bottom Profiling; Subsea Positioning; GNSS Positioning.

The successful candidate will be working within the service and support team on the support, service and maintenance of both client owned systems and our own demonstrator/trials equipment. You will be developing knowledge to support both internal and external clients including product testing and product development. This is varied role and some limited offshore time may be necessary for trials, client training, demonstrations and product evaluations. There may also be the need to support colleagues with other equipment from time to time.

Desired skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in electronics or a relevant engineering subject.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Observant, inquisitive and have an ability to solve problems.
  • Previous experience in the marine industry a distinct advantage.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel unhindered domestically and internationally.
  • Self motivated and a can-do attitude.
  • Participate in an out of hours support rota.
  • IT literate, familiar with MS Office applications.
  • High standard of written and spoken English.

The work will be based at our premises in Great Yarmouth.
